Spring Means New Beginnings

Spring is in the air! One cannot help believing spring means beginnings. For example, you are looking for a new home for your family. Spring is a wonderful time of year to search for a house. Or you finally bought a house with a yard after renting for so long and now want some unconditional dog love.

On the other hand, NBC news cites one of the big reasons millennials buy a home is for their dog! Surprisingly, ‘a recent survey found that 33 percent of millennial home buyers decided to buy a house because of their dog, outranking marriage, and kids as an incentive.’

“Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.”

Spring Means New Beginnings with a New Pet

According to the pet expert’s sunshine is very helpful for a new puppy. “Most dog owners and dog sitters agree that spring or summer are the optimal seasons for adding a four-legged friend to your family. Warmer months are ideal times for housebreaking your puppy, and they also give you the benefit of longer and sunnier days for walks and playtime.” rover.com

Bringing Your New Dog into a New home

Introducing a new dog to your home takes some doing. First thing is to remain calm. Sounds easy but excitement is often hard to disguise. For instance, the “dog whisperer” Cesar Millan suggests that this step is the most important of the 8 steps to bringing a dog into a new home. Moreover, a quiet composure needs to be in place throughout the remaining steps.

Next, grab the leash and take a long walk through the neighborhood. Here is another great reason to do this in the spring. This also allows the dog to release the energy and anxiety of a unfamiliar environment.

Then keeping the dog still leashed, have the dog sit before you open the door of your house. Enter the house before the dog introduce the dog to your home continuing with a tour of the house room to room.

During the tour No Touch, No Talk, No Eye Contact. As you may already know from watching the Dog Whisperer body language or simple sounds, like “Tsch!” or a finger snap is all that is required.

The last few steps involve leading the dog to the feeding area and to the dog’s bedroom where he/she will sleep. Throughout the entire day exude a calm demeanor. Thus setting the rules from the beginning without giving the dog too much attention and excitement.

Moving with Your Pet

So, if you already have a pet check out The Wildest website. There you’ll find suggestions on transitioning your pet while dealing with all the hassles associated packing and moving. Here is just a snippet to get you started:

Before You Pack

  • Have the boxes and other essential moving items like packing tape, newsprint, and bubble wrap in your house way ahead of the move so your dog can get used to them.

  • Associate these items with play and treats so that your dog develops positive rather than negative feelings towards them.

  • Boxes can easily be damaged by dogs, and dogs can easily be damaged by bubble wrap, so do not let them be together unattended.

Lastly just remember,
