Easy Bathroom Updates for Today’s Market

A Fool-Proof Formula for Easy Bathroom Updates

This week we will look at some easy bathroom updates. The ongoing question is how much money is it worth spending to improve your overall investment.

As we all know, our home has become very important, not only in 2020, but now entering 2021. So, first let’s look at what the designers are telling us about color. Similarly to our previous home decor post, colors are pale blues, “earthy” yellows, warm neutrals contrasted with chalky white.

As an example, here’s a few hashtags to investigate on Pinterest for this year’s bathroom color scheme:

Color of the year 2021 Pantone #pantone2021 #PANTONE17-5104. #17-5104 #ultimategrey #PANTONE 13-0647 #13-0647 #Illuminating #PantoneIlluminating

So, we know adding a fresh coat of paint livens up a room at very little cost. But, what about the higher end costs of bathroom updates?

“According to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, if a bathroom remodel is tackled properly, homeowners will recoup 50% of the cost put into the project.”

Furthermore, though opinions on the actual recoup value may vary,  one thing is clear ROI rules. For example this is from Clever Real Estate written in 2019.

While figures will depend on the specific housing market, Zillow claims that a mid-range bathroom remodel averages an ROI of 70.1% in the U.S. Figures are even bleaker for those that engage in an upscale bathroom remodel, with an average ROI of just 56.2%. This means that an average upscale remodel cost of $61,662 will yield just $34,644.

Bottom line, the return on investment is the determining factor in how far you should go to update your bathroom. So, what are some of the things you can do?  Here’s a full list of ideas from *Money Crashers:

  1. Limit your tile.
  2. Save on counter tops.
  3. Paint
  4. Update Fixtures
  5. Freshen Caulk and Grout
  6. Redo, don’t buy new
  7. Buy used
  8. Go green with upgrades
